Livewell Perspective

Food as culture, not a diet

Nutrition · April 2026 · 4 min read

Diet culture is a poor teacher. It replaces pleasure with suspicion and culture with a shopping list from somewhere else. Livewell Nutrition starts from a different place: people already know how to eat. The work is to make everyday Ghanaian and African food more visible as care.

A practical approach to everyday nourishment starts from a Ghanaian pantry: greens, grains, legumes, fish, fruit, herbs and the dishes families already cook. Education at Festival treated people as capable cooks. That tone will carry into programmes, Villa kitchens, and — when the Eco Farm is productive — a line from soil to plate.

Future products appear as they are developed. Until then, the useful idea is older than any brand: eat well, with other people, often enough that it becomes how you live.
